Next to Kosovo, in its northeast part lies Medvedja, one of the three municipalities inhabited by Albanians in southern Serbia.
Once in this municipality the majority were Albanians, but over the years many of them have fled to Western countries or even to Kosovo for a better life.
Those left complain of unfair treatment by the Serbian state, while saying they often feel forgotten by Kosovo authorities and those of Albania.
In the past term in the Medvedja Municipal Assembly there were eight Albanian municipal advisers, while after the last elections they were in September, only three remain.
Parliamentary elections in Kosovo, Albanians in Medvedja look to them in hopes of a more serious treatment.
Albanians there, who remain few in number, complain of unfair treatment by the Serbian state, while saying they expect more serious treatment from the new Kosovo government, which already calls on them to implement reciprocity in relation to Kosovo Serbs, reports VOA.
Representatives of Albanians living in Medvedja say representatives of the Presevo Valley would have to get involved in the process of talks between Kosovo and Serbia, which continue to remain blocked since November last year.
