Pope Franescu has said Wednesday that hostility towards migrants is being driven by an unreasonable fear.
He made these comments as he arrived in Central America, the area from which migrants are trying to enter the United States, broadcast Reuters.
American President Donald Trump has asked the U.S. Congress $5.7 billion to help build the wall with Mexico to keep immigrants out of the United States.
This demand has been sharply rejected by the Democrats in the US, resulting in partial closure of the American government.
One of the journalists who has been traveling with the Pope in Panama, it has been reported to him that he has seen some obstacles aiming to stop migrants from crossing into US territory.
The Pope responded by saying that “Franka makes us crazy”.
The immigration is expected to be one of the key topics of discussion on the Pope's six-day visit to Panama.
The 82-year-old Archbishop is also expected to visit the United Arab Emirates, Morocco, Bulgaria, Macedonia and Romania.
He has said he has wanted to visit Iraq as well, but is advised not to do so because it is too dangerous.
