Peza is where one of the most important events has been held for the unification of Albanians against invaders during World War II -- the Assembly where the Peza Conference was held on September 16th 1942.
Today after 76 years, this conference is commemorated where the foundations of national unity are laid. Official celebrations included representatives of the executive.
Pandeli Majko said: “In Peza started sparks. We need to say some things straight. Those who say no to the north, not to the south, should know that even Middle Albania has had cobras in its generation, who have claimed the watan”.
While Erion Veliaj said: “we firmly believe that one of the things we have to spend on the new generation is memory. It's the fact that we're not a nation from nothing, life didn't start today”.
But like every year, Communists marched to the cemetery of martyrs.
Our “Communist Party's fight has been for freedom and independence against fascist invaders and their treacherous associates, that they were more dangerous, they crushed you. But, we've been in alliance with all the countries of the world, with great powers”, says a communist.
Why, though, was the historic conference held at the Peza? Ilir Beata, son of Partizan Stavri Bita, shows the reasons in the Peza Square: the “Conference of Peza and Peza together is one of the first pages of Europe, founded on June 5, 1940 by Muslim Peza, the great commander. That here was the most patriotic and secure country, away from Tirana”.
