19 years from establishment of KPC, Kosovo still without army

Today, 19 years from the establishment of the KPC, where under the Kumanovo Agreement and in accordance with the Rambouillet Agreement, was preceded by the disarmament of Kosovo Liberation Army soldiers and its transformation into the Kosovo Protection Corps. With the entry of NATO troops, KFOR, the transformation [...] began in Kosovo in 1999.

With NATO troops' entry, KFOR, Kosovo's 1999 transformation began KLA, finishing in 2000. The first KPC leader was appointed Lieutenant General Agim Ceku. Under the deal, KPC duties and rights at the time were action to prevent and reduce damage from natural disasters and accidents, providing assistance to endangered areas, helping clean up mined areas, helping rebuild and communities.

The KPC was established at the beginning of the country's institutional body, which was taking place not only in Kosovo, but also in the region, which grew and strengthened but in poor conditions and low wages. On February 2nd 2007, the special envoy for Kosovo's status, Martti Ahtisaari, handed over his proposal to Pristina and Belgrade, “Standards for Kosovo”, in which the dissolution of KKM was envisioned, and the creation of a new force.

“will create a new, professional and multiethnic security force for Kosovo, which will be easily armed and will be able to cover certain security needs according to State Let this deal come together. Kosovo Protection Corps, after achieving their goal, including facilitating the post-war reconstruction of Kosovo. They will be distributed one year after the adoption of this” agreement, written in the Ahtisaari Plan. The explosion of the KPC is done with the reconciliation of all local and foreign relevanting factors.

On January 21, 2009, the Kosovo Security Force was established, which initially had the responsibility to deal with serious disasters, such as earthquakes, floods or fires that could threaten Kosovo. Currently, the KSF's mission is to conduct crisis response operations in Kosovo and abroad; civil defence operations within Kosovo; and to help civil authorities respond to natural disasters and other emergencies.
