President Hashim Thaci's idea of “correction” of the borders is contrary to Article 1 of the Constitution of Kosovo, which says the Republic of Kosovo has no territorial claims on other states.
In the President's Office, it is clear that if agreement is reached for the Presevo Valley to join Kosovo, then the Constitution must be changed, the newspaper “Zri” writes today.
Kosovo President Hashim Thaci's request for “correction” of the borders is contrary to the country's first Article Constitution. This is even confirmed by the President's office.
But until lawyers say this is a dangerous idea, as they say it weakens even Kosovo's negotiating position, the President's Office says that if agreement with Serbia is reached in line with the option for reforming the borders, which would enable the joining of Presevo, Bujanoc and Medvedja with Kosovo, then the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo must be changed.
Bekim Colak, adviser to the country's president, has told the newspaper “Zerı that it is clear that changing borders is contrary to the country's Constitution and that if agreement is reached for the Presevo Valley to join Kosovo, then the Constitution should be changed.
