The full implementation of relations between Serbia and Kosovo is essential for regional stability. Normalisation would also pave the way for both countries to eventual membership in the European Union. The United States strongly supports dialogue facilitated by the EU between Belgrade and Pristina. Now is the time for the parties to be creative and flexible”, says the U.S. State Department statement.
It comes in response to recent suggestions that possible resolution of Kosovo-Serbia disputes can be achieved in exchange of territories on ethnic lines.
The presidents of both countries, Hashim Thaci and Aleksandar Vuciq, have put the idea first for border correction, while the other for territorial division.
