This is because they are suffering from a drought and heat wave that has hit most of Europe.
Large red plastic vessels hung by the end of helicopters, Super Puma, carried water to the Yura Mountains' farms and in the Alps' lowlands, writes EuroNews, broadcast Kosovo Clan.
Swiss authorities say about 40,000 cows graze in summer in high pastures in the Vaud canton in western Switzerland and that each needs up to 150 liters of water a day.
Two large ponds, according to the same authorities, are filled with water to allow farmers to load their trucks.
Meanwhile, dozens of farmers have called for a special phone line to seek help from helicopters since the emergency operation was announced last Friday.
We've had these kinds of vessels for water, but never so many,” said Gregore Martin, who runs a 68 cow farm.
The Swiss Federal government announced yesterday that it will lower imports fees for livestock food and provide interest-free loans to help farmers deal with the drought.
