Russia announced today that it has summoned the Greek ambassador to Moscow to a conversation and has informed him that the state will respond, in what Russia describes as Athens' unfriendly decision to expel two Russian diplomats.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said that during talks with Greek Ambassador Andreas Friganas, it has handed him a diplomatic note, where it has been informed of the counteractions taken by the Russian side, Reuters reports.
The ministry's statement does not mention the name of the expelled Greek diplomat, nor is it said when this diplomat should leave Russia.
Greece in July expelled two Russian diplomats and banned the country of two others. Athens said it took these measures to prevent the promotion of protests, to prevent the agreement with Macedonia on the name dispute.
The Russian Foreign Ministry had named it “inaccusable” this move in official Athens and had warned of uncontested consequences, prompting Greek officials to ask Moscow not to interfere in Greece's internal affairs. / REL/
