DW has discovered the main points where the two leaders have agreed. Seehofer is also the leader of the CSU coalition party.
The foundation stone of the so-called <x0Mister plan” of Seehofer insists on refusing entry for migrants who have already been registered in another EU country.
The move is seen by many as a violation of EU law and the Geneva Convention on Refugees Rights.
Merkel and Seehofer have met in the office of the president of Bundestag, Wolfgang Schäuble, and was the last one who has tried to mediate and has apparently succeeded.
They made a last-minute deal, agreeing that Seehofer would remain in his position and that transit centres would be established at the German-austrian border for immigrants.
