Following Wednesday's unsuccessful meeting between Kosovo President Thaci and Serbian Vucinq, the German press pays attention to the stalled negotiations between the two countries, but also to a film on Serbs and Albanians.
The Swiss newspaper “Neue Zürcher Zeitung” notes that even the latest meeting with EU mediation in Brussels between President Thaci and Serbian President Vuciq (18.07) has brought no new progress in the dialogue. “rons look frozen.” The NZZ quoted President Thaci, who referred to “for one of the worst meetings of the last six years”. Wednesday's talks did not last long. After the meeting, the Serbian president also said only that “should continue to negotiate”.
The NZZZ notes that at least “both sides have agreed not to spur new conflicts”. But it seems that Vuciq has been unhappy. The NZZ quoted the Serbian president as saying “so it does not function”, in terms of Pristina's request for Kosovo recognition. Required “are compromise”. But what compromise this is about, neither does NZZ nor President Thaci and Vuciq mention Wednesday.
A Unique Film
While the newspaper “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” pays attention to a film broadcast from television ARTE on Thursday evening, (19.07) a German-Serbian co-operation with the title “Enklava” calling it a melodrama of Kosovo and in an unbearable, unilateral manner.
“The hero of the film is the 10-year-old Serbian Nenad... who lives with his family in a... enclaves, which means he must go to school every day with an armoured KFOR vehicle, in a school where he is the only student of the only teacher. ...this child is given the role of being a brave naive. Nenad seeks to play with children and is given this desire, playing hide-and-seek with three Albanian boys. For a moment in the movie, it seems possible to understand within the new generation, but the situation changes, when without cause the Union, the leader of the group, does not forgive Nenad that Serbs have killed his father. I didn't kill anyone, replied Nenad. ”
The FAZ pays attention to the different presentation of both sides in the conflict in the film, stressing that the Albanian presentation in the film is charged by cliches. Not only does it go to school in front of Nenad, the charming image of the film stands an illiterate Union, none of the Albanian boys seem to go to school, but the overall look at Kosovo is strangely divided: Here is the heroic oppression of proud Serbs, where Muslim Albanians present themselves in every case as behind, who look forward to a false case to becoming violent. ”
