Russian dissident journalist Arkdy Babchenko has discovered that Ukrainian authorities have forged his death Tuesday as part of a serious operation to expose an alleged Russian assassination plot.
Babchenko has been giving details about how he insisted on his death in Ukraine, saying he had to take such an action because he's afraid he could end up like former Russian agent Sergei Scripal, who has been poisoned with nervous agents in Britain.
Everyone says it undermines trust in journalists, what you would do in my decision if they came to you and hit you”, the reporter said among other things.
Babchenko said he thought he'd left the North Pole at the moment he realized the plans for his murder, but he was reminded that even “Scribal tried to escape”
Speaking at a press conference, Babchenko defended tactics used by Ukraine's security services and said the plot to kill him was terribly true.
According to the journalist, his death had been insisted during an extraordinary operation involving a model-up artist, swine blood and an ambulance trip to the hospital morgue and then watched the news about his suicide given on TV.
Babchenko, who fled Moscow to Kiev in 2017, said that his wife was fully aware of the plan. On Wednesday, he apologized to her during a press conference organised by Ukraine's SBU spying agency when friends and colleagues learned of their great surprise that he was still alive.
My wife, of course, knew, because everything happened in our house in front of her, he explained.
Ukraine has been sharply criticised for fraud, and critics hold Russia accountable for the false murder. On the other hand, Moscow called it a provocation.
Ukrainian police have arrested a man who works for a Ukrainian-German arms production company. He was reportedly employed by Russian security forces to find a hit man to execute Babchenko.
Babchenko said the detainee had paid for the murder after news of the “suicide” was made public. <
However, a former hired killer had gone to Ukraine's security forces, informing them of the assassination plot, Ukrainian officials said. (TemA TV)
