The prestigious British newspaper “The Guardian”, just minutes ago, has reported on disagreements between Macedonia and Greece to close the multi-year chapter over the dispute over Macedonia's official name is continuing.
North Macedonia “ ” had been the Greek proposal which the Macedonian president is opposing.
There is no internal consensus on the agreement between the two countries for the name settlement.
President Ivanov after reviewing it, the deal was named as a personal one of Zaev and Dimitrov, and said it would atone for Macedonia's constitutional capacity, history and state sovereignty.
Ivanov said he would not sign the same and would never back down from that stance despite pressure.
Is patriotism to change preambles and hide the state-owned jurisdiction of the Republic of Macedonia, the Republic of Krusevo? Is patriotism the cancellation of constitutional Article for the protection of the Macedonian minority in neighbouring countries? Is it dignified to inform all UN members that you have changed the constitutional name? Is it dignified to accept all Greek demands and ultimatums? Is the leadership to accept the text of an agreement in which there is no legal and protection for the Macedonian side? My attitude is final and they will not stop me with any kind of pressure, blackmail and threat. I will not support and sign this harmful text of the” agreement, President Gjorge Ivanov has declared at a news conference today.
This responsibility for the move was asked by European Union Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Han.
It is not decent for a president of a state to refuse to negotiate with the prime minister, with the foreign minister, to receive first-hand information. I think the prime minister and foreign minister have fully respected the constitutional guidelines and can only urgently call the president to take responsibility. This is not a matter of accession, but in democracy we can expect to listen to people among themselves and discuss and should not forget that the head of state is in a model way for many people in a state. The president, as directly elected, has a special position and responsibility and must be aware of it, otherwise undermines function”, Han said.
During the day, Prime Minister Zaev and Foreign Minister Dimitrov had met President Ivanov briefly to hand over the deal, after which Ivanov refused to discuss more. This meeting will be remembered as the shortest meeting in the country's history, which did not last more than 2 minutes. Zaev and Dimitrov subsequently appealed for unity of political factors in the country, because it is about the country's European future. Stressing that citizens will decide on the agreement in the referendum, the Government said that even without Ivanov's consent this process would end.
