The statement said that coastal guards have saved 68 immigrants from the Mediterranean Sea, including Tunisian and seven foreigners, during the mission that was launched last night.
The ministry said the ship carried about 180 immigrants from Tunisia and other African countries.
The ship sank near Kerken Island, on the east coast of Tunisia.
In recent months, Tunisia has been one of the main points for immigrants aiming to reach Europe, fleeing poverty and conflict in Africa and the Middle East.
