It was said that marijuana remains the most used drug, and that young people aged 18-22 are its biggest users.
The same day, at a meeting with representatives of the rule bodies -- the first of the Government, Ramush Haradinaj -- called for additional commitment to combat narcotics in schools.
“We are very committed to increasing the fight against negative phenomena, with particular emphasis on the fight against narcotics in schools and close to them, and for that it is necessary to increase measures by law and security bodies”, Haradinaj has said.
Disturbingly, according to metrecologist Safet Blakaj, is the ongoing increase in child marijuana use.
While the fall of heroin is seen as something good, according to Blakaj, concern is increasing cocaine use, separately in the capital.
Even though it calls them necessary, Blakaj says police shares in schools are not enough.
Safet Blakaj, Director of the Mediko-Psikokoerapeutic Centre “Labyrint”
“does not support the idea of school raiding, it has been necessary, but this should not be enough, police should hit drug trafficking networks”
To improve the situation, he recommends institutions to work on prevention programmes.
During the first 5 months of 2018, police in Pristina have arrested 115 people for possession or use of narcotics, as well as opened 84 cases.
19 of those arrested are students, while 96 of those arrested are not students.
17 of those arrested are dealers or drug dealers.
For five months, according to police, over 5100 patrols have been conducted around schools, as well as over 2300 visits to schools.
