Raising Family Violence

Statistics of domestic violence are disturbing. Sociologists and psychologists raise the alarm for the situation and increase the number of these cases. One person was arrested Sunday in Pristina for physically attacking his daughter, who then sought medical assistance. The attacker, her father, was immediately released in regular procedure.

This is the latest case reported by police on domestic violence. And such cases are increasing every day, as far as killing has begun, as the case of 14-year-old Luan Bernjeshi from Karacheva and Kamenica. He allegedly killed his father with a wooden stick because he spent 1,000 euros. 10 cases of deaths have been recorded in Kosovo as a result of domestic violence, 5 of the family's serious murder were recorded in 2016, 4 in 2017, and one within the first five months of this year. The police are worried about these numbers. The reluctance to report domestic violence remains disturbing for police.

The macabre crime that father committed against his son in Kamenica is also seen with concern in a sociological and psychological way. The cases of domestic violence unfortunately have not seen a decline, and by 2015 there were reported 3 thousand and 534 cases, of them 172 cases of violence against children who were exercised by their parents. A total of 1038 cases were reported in 2015, 51 children, 859 women and 118 men, in 2016 there were a total of 1227 cases of which 60 were children, 988 women and 179 men, in 2017, reported to 1269 cases of domestic violence, among them were 61 children, 962 women and 246 men, and during the January period of March this year, according to Kosovo police, 281 cases of domestic violence were recorded by 27 children. Our country still has no law on child protection until in March of this year, Kosovo's Assembly, in absence of quorum, failed to adopt recommendations harmonised by the Parliamentary Group for Family Violence.
