Donald Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, was secretly paid with $400,000 to arrange a meeting between Ukrainian and American President last year.
According to BBC sources in Kiev, the payment is made by leader Petro Poroshenko's mediator. The meeting was held in June 2017.
Shortly after Porosenko returned to Ukraine, the country's anticorruption agency halted investigations into former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort.
Ukrainian sources said Cohen was paid because Ukrainian lobbyists and embassies in Washington wanted more than one photo of Poroshenko with Trump. They wanted something that could be sold as “talks”.
Poroshenko decided to create a rear channel with Trump.
The task was given to a former assistant who asked a Ukrainian deputy for help. He used personal contacts at a Jewish charity association in New York City, follows the TCh.
That sent him to Michael Cohen, the lawyer of President Trump. Cohen was paid $400,000.
There's no evidence Trump knows about the pay.
