Initiative does not love Hashim Thaci as dialogue leader with Serbia

Representatives of political parties in the Kosovo Assembly continue to say that the leading role in the final dialogue with Serbia should not be trusted with the president of the country.

In the Democratic League of Kosovo, they say dialogue for normalising relations between the Republic of Kosovo and Serbia, as two independent states, mediated by the European Union, should be led by the Kosovo government, not by the presidency.

However, officials in the LDK said today that Kosovo does not have a stable government and the country is in a crisis.

Avdullah Hoti, head of the LDK Parliamentary Group, at this subject's weekly conference, said that before the crisis is resolved in the country, you cannot go and talk about external topics, such as dialogue with Serbia.

“In the country's Constitution, it is said that foreign policy puts the Government and then the president can represent the state of Kosovo on the basis of Kosovo's foreign policy principles, which are approved and approved by the country's government”, Hoti said.

The Kosovo government has approved a platform for political dialogue with Serbia.

This platform has been processed to the Kosovo Assembly for review and adoption in the form of the resolution.

Even in the political subject Social Democrat Initiative, say President Hashim Thaci should not be the one who should represent Kosovo in the final phase of the Kosovo dialogue, Serbia.

MP Haxhi Shala told Radio Free Europe that the talks have begun at the level of prime ministers and should thus end.

He said that no results can be expected if the president leads this process, as, according to him so far, dialogue has shown no major results.

This is where we have our doubts as Initiatives, because this dialogue should represent the prime minister, and the Government of Kosovo should be hosting this process, not the president, as is promoted in recent days. We do not agree that the president of the Republic of Kosovo is the host of these talks, even though he has started them as prime minister”, Shala said.

Life Krasniqi, analyst from the Kosovo Democratic Institute, told Radio Free Europe that the local political spectrum more than ever has to exceed the internal problems of daily policy to focus on a major state issue.

The big problem under it at this moment is dialogue with Serbia.

“A full agreement of the political spectrum guarantees better representation and performance, while a full concession would have to determine the role of the negotiating leader, where all institutions would exercise their constitutional and legal roles and responsibilities. If the country's president represents such an idea, come out of a broad political consensus, then let him be the leader of the political dialogue”, Krasniqi said.

Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj has said that drafting the platform has followed numerous meetings with President Hashim Thaci, Parliament Speaker Kadri Veselini, as well as organised debates over the negotiations with Serbia, where political parties have participated.

If Kosovo President Hashim Thaci represents Kosovo in the final phase of the Kosovo dialogue, Serbia, according to the Government platform, Thaci is obliged on a regular basis to inform the Kosovo Assembly of talks in Brussels.
