Shpend Ahmeti resigns from all positions in Vetevendosje

Shpend Ahmeti has resigned from all positions in Vetevendosje Movement. He has been one of the most important figures in this party in recent years. Since December last year, he is said to be lined up on the side of the dissatisfied within the movement. This is the letter of resignation [...]

This is Ahmeti's resignation letter:

Dear citizens,

Dear colleagues and friends,

Kosovo is still in a position to pursue political and social issues. We continue to be guided by a political class incapable of facing the challenges of our country. Just on the 10th anniversary of independence, we don't have to reflect on what this country would be like if we could do the shift of political generations, not age, but thinking.

In the last seven years, I have willingly engaged in the Vetevendosje Movement. Together we have achieved remarkable successes and have fought harmful processes together with Kosovo citizens. By keeping united, we managed to convince 200,000 citizens that change is necessary and possible. Solidarity, programme and willingness to sacrifice everything for the cause and for each other were the most powerful pillars of LVV political activism.

For these reasons I joined in 2011. I learned much from each of the activists, both knowledge and courage, and all the values I thought were necessary to act as a force for change. Although we disagreed about all things, we believed that only together we can bring about the change of political generations in Kosovo.

Like you, honourable citizens, I have been observing in recent months an irreparable damage to Vetevendosje movement, which even the biggest enemies of LVV and the state could not even design or imagine. I still can't believe that this debate has occurred among people who have been willing to die for each other until yesterday.

This letter is not a letter of guilt, nor is it a letter to explain how all of this happened. Others are speaking, far more than they should be. I can't speak ill of any of the atrophy in recent months. At least, I can't change my mind so quickly, for any individual from either side. Otherwise I'd be naive to have spent seven years side by side with each of them.

Like every human and every organization, we have made mistakes, but we have become even stronger by mistakes. Just why we entered and stayed in Vetevendosje was that we saw Vetevendosje as the strongest and most likely tool to get rid of a corrupt political class that has lost its dignity to the citizen's country. It's worth everything to make this possible.

But I haven't entered Vetevendosje to fight each other inside the organization, thus strengthening the previous political class.

For the last few weeks, I've understood a lot about the organization that I've never known before. These things have not been discussed with me. But that's not the reason for my decision. The motive of my decision today is that the reason I've entered the LVV is no longer. Disagreements have damaged the spirit, trust, and therefore the cause. I don't believe that the organization in the situation today is the fastest way to change, at least not in line with my attitudes and beliefs. I'm not gonna try to prove that I'm fine and others are bad. This approach and manner of settling differences simply does not represent me. This does not mean that I agree with one arm or another regarding the truth about the past. Not at all. I haven't been part of any of the topics that have happened to the initial disagreement. That's why I don't feel the battle just like them.

I've personally tried to play an intermediate role in overcoming problems, but I soon realized that differences were too deep. I have gone to the recent Council meetings and participated in the election process, always hoping that differences could be overcome. But that was impossible.

This does not mean that Albin, Visari, and Dardan and all others have no right in their opinion. Surely they will fight for their truth. Everyone wants success in pursuing their own goals, if they have good. The streets may be joining us again, but for me already with reason, conditions, and other methods. I bow to each activist for every job done for the good of the country. I will answer to each one of them individually for my mandate and work, and my door will always be open to them. I don't ask LV assemblies to do anything about my decision. It's the same thing to me anyway. People of Pristina are assured that my political future is more than ever linked to the capital. I am aware that we may find it more difficult in the Communist Assembly, but attitudes and beliefs are more important than comfort. I remain the same, loyal to myself and the citizens of Pristina. With the concept of transparency and accountability which enabled us to return normality to the city, I will continue to work on implementing reforms and pledges for a rapid and equal development of Pristina. All my energy will focus on creating conditions for a better life for the citizens of Pristina who should feel themselves equal among themselves and with the residents of other capitals in providing public services and infrastructure.

I don't regret another day in LVV and I won't blame anyone for the past. I take my responsibility for the entire situation. All my friends wish you success in achieving goals if they are in line with the ideal we've had together.

From today, I resign from all positions in Vetevendosje”.
