Romania's President Klaus Iohannis has declared today in Bucharest after meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq that he is willing to engage in talks on finding a solution between Kosovo and Serbia. He has said that the final solution cannot be imposed from outside and that he cannot imagine a solution that the Serbs do not accept. For this, he has offered his country's readiness to take a role in the matter during the first part of 2019. But what do they say in Pristina?
Romania's willingness to become involved in finding the solution for Kosovo is welcomed in Pristina, but first this state is required to recognise independence, as Romanians are one of the 5 EU states that have not recognised Kosovo's independence.
Bekim Colak, Kosovo President Hashim Thaci's cabinet chief, commenting on this offer, has said Romania must first recognise Kosovo's independence.
According to Colak, the European Union is mediating talks and that the Kosovo side is not demanding that Brussels be replaced.
The European Union is and remains the official mediator/relative of the dialogue process for normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia. We are grateful and are not seeking replacement for the crucial role of the EU as mediator in this process” has said Colak for Gazette Express.
But, to gain credibility, Romanians must recognise Kosovo's independence, Colak has said.
Kosovo welcomes the assistance of any democratic state for reaching a final agreement on normalising interstate relations between Kosovo and Serbia. Romania presents no exception if its goals are loanable. But to gain credibility in this approach, it is not late at all that as a first step of establishing mutual trust, Romania recognizes Kosovo's independence” has added the president's adviser.
Otherwise, Romania's president's initiative has welcomed Vucic, who has said the Romanian president has a reputation in the world and is creditable to the fact that Romania has recognised independence.
