Kurt also remembers many activists killed during that time by the Serbian Army.
Kurti's complete scripture:
19 years ago, NATO planes attacked the steps of Serb forces in Milosevic's Yugoslavia. I believe NATO bombings had three major causes when it started:
1) not to repeat Bosnia in Kosovo. Recak's massacre of January 15, 1999, was showing that a new Srebrenica had become very similar in Kosovo that must be prevented.
2) not to repeat Kosovo in Macedonia. Enlarging conflict in conditions where it does not either solve or stop it is a common phenomenon and this should be prevented.
3) The failure of the Rambouillet conference. Milosevic eventually refused to sign the agreement with the Kosovar side, though in the document offered, Serbia benefited greatly.
At these late hours of March 24th 1999, Latif Berisha and Agim Hajriz were killed in Mitrovica.
Latif Berisha was university professor, poet, LDK chairman in Mitrovica and a member of the leadership in the LDK, leader of the reconciliation of women, committed to continued education of the people. He was killed in his home in northern Mitrovica.
Agim Hajriz was an economist, a staunch unionist, mayor of municipal unions in Mitrovica, mayor of municipal governance in Mitrovica in the 1990s. He was killed in his home, along with his mother and 10-year-old son.
Kadri Kadriu was a poet and a painter who believed that culture brings us closer to freedom was the creator of highly valuable artistic works. He was killed two weeks before Agim Hajriz's Latif Berisha, exactly on March 11th 1999.
These three intellectuals, activists of the KLA's national and supportive issue, were separated from their lives first but as soon as the NATO bombings in Mitrovica that remained divided with the outcome of those bombings.
Mitrovica was the target of aggressive Serbia. Mitrovica is our wound that's closed.
