Out of the 7714 fines imposed on January 1st in the Pristina region, only 1478, or 19%... have so far been paid.
Harsh sentences have been faced by law offenders in traffic since 1 January.
With the new Law's entry into force that day, police can fine physical people up to 500 euros, and those legals up to 1,000 euros at the scene, without having to file to court.
With the changes made, the deadline allowing criminals to pay only 50% of the penalty has lasted from 8 to 15 days.
But even this has not affected the number of paid tickets.
This, since from the first day of 2018, only 19% of the approximately 7700 fines pronounced in the Pristina region have been paid.
Nazmi Zogaj, leader of the Traffic Unit in Pristina, has said:
400 thousand euros is scheduled to register from fines in Pristina's municipality traffic during 2018.
This plan could be exceeded because the municipality had made the plan before the increase in fines.
Citizens will even be forced to pay because of provisions such as that of not allowing Kosovo to leave.
While Nazmi Zogaj, leader of the Traffic Unit in Pristina, has said that:
Although the most frequent fines remain for overcoming speed, according to the police, there is a drop in fines for this wrongdoing.
Meanwhile, municipal officials have yet to elaborate on how they plan to spend their income on this category.
