EULEX, British Embassy Call for Election of IML Director

Four months after the competition for the new director of the Law Medicine Institute and two failed processes was concluded, the right process was again promised.

EULEX and the United Kingdom have demanded that the director of the Legal Medicine Institute be elected as soon as possible so that this dictatorship can increase its capacities.

British Ambassador Ruair O'Connell has stressed that the fact that the competition has twice been cancelled cannot be described as failure.

EULEX chief Alexander Papadopoulos has talked about the importance of increasing the capacities of this institute.

Papadopoulos said there is still no final agreement for EULEX.

We can't talk about how many cases remain. We will support and assist in cases for Kosovo. We have not yet chosen the way we will help Kosovo after the end of our mandate. I would like to thank the minister for the dedication and initiative to build the capacities of this institute, as EULEX seems gradually backed up. We're looking for a partner who's reliable and very capable so that we can hand over our activities and work with them”, she said.

But Justice Minister Abelard Tahiri has said it is still not clear what will be the role of EULEX, after June.

He has promised that very soon the IML will have a responsible director.

The competition for selection of the new director of the Legal Medicine Institute had failed twice, due to the failure of the criteria by candidates.

The race for the first of the Law Medicine Institute has been introduced to the current director.

5 out of 6 candidates are legal doctors, such as Arsim Gerjaliu, Valon Hyseni, Naim Uka, Musa Gashi and Brigita Curri. Candidate Driton Krasniqi, meanwhile, is a medical death investigator.
