Cruel murder of Slovak journalist and investigation into prime minister's suspicious connection to Italian mafia

Before he was killed last week with a single blow to his chest and his body left with his fiancée, who was killed with a bullet in his head, Slovak investigative journalist Jan Kuciak had gathered evidence that an Italian businessman living in Slovakia was part of the network [...]

The unfinished Kuciaki final report was published on Wednesday at the current news site.sk on money laundering, tax fraud, drug smuggling by Slovakia's Nrangheta.

The (OCCRP) Corruption and Organised Crime Reporting Project, which has supported the work of Kukaki, has also published its entire investigation.

According to O CCRP, Kuciac and his colleagues had started investigating “considering the employment of Maria Troskova by Slovakia's Prime Minister Robert Fico as assistant. ”

Fico employed the former Miss Universe competition and the topless model (called “the sexist” from Slovak media) despite her little political experience. His press department had refused to provide details about the work it did to clarify its position in the government.

But looking at this story, the reporting team discovered an even bigger scandal. As it turns out, Troskova once had a partner, renowned binsensmen Antonio Vadala 42, an Italian who lived in Slovakia and who owns a network of agricultural companies east of the country, reports “Theintercept”, the Periscope broadcast.

The 27-year-old Kuciac had discovered that Vadala's name was suspicious since last year an Italian prosecutor had investigated cocaine smuggling from a cartel of five large families known as Nrangheta.

For investigating Kuciak and his colleagues, O reported CCRP <x0macoma is collecting additional information for Wadala é as well as for the role of Troskova, if there are links between him and the office of Prime Minister Jan Kuciac when he was killed. ”

Vadala's lawyer has refused to comment on the charges when he was contacted by the Macedonian investigative team in November.

As investigative journalist Tom Nicholson reported this week, a focus of the Cuban work was the fraudulent payment of European Union funds meant to support businesses in the poor countries of the economic bloc “for Italians living in Slovakia and having close ties to the organised criminal group by Calabria Ndragata).

O CCRP plans to publish more reports by Kukak soon, showing how the EU farm subsidies system for Slovak land owners was mistreated by Italian mafia figures.

After Fico offered 1m euros for information leading to the arrest of anyone who killed Kukak and his fiancée Martina Kušnírová, Nicholson suggested that Slovakia's secret service “currently has gangster names; both Jan and I acted on revealed intelligence documents. ”

According to Kuciak's reports, Troskova was the co-founder of the GIA comprimination with Vadalan four years ago when she was employed in the prime minister's office, despite her little political experience.

At a strange news conference Tuesday, two days after the troops of Kuciak and Kušnírová were discovered in their home outside Bratislava, the prime minister, with Interior Minister Robert Kalinák and Slovak police chief Tibor Gašpar published 1m euros ready for the fall offering information on the couple's murder.

The Slovak prime minister also aggressively prompted questions about his assistant, Troškova. “

This is over line.” Despite this show of support from the prime minister, Troškova and Viliam Jasa? A member of Slovakia's security council, linked to its reporting and Vadala by the Kuciak report, said in a statement that they would leave until the investigation into the killings was completed.

“Linking our names to this false crime by some politicians or media is absolutely on the line,” writes them.

We completely dismiss any connection to this tragedy”.

Also Wednesday, Slovak Culture Minister Marek Madaric, a veteran member of the Slovak prime minister's Smer party, resigned. /Periscopi/
