In an emergency release to the media, Xhafaj suggested there were persons with criminal precedent among protesters.
The interior minister has asked both local and responsible protesters, as he said, not to negotiate to destroy joint public property.
He said that 12 injured effectives have remained due to the clash between protesters and police, while he did not speak if there are injured persons on the part of protesters.
“in accordance with the request made and in respect to this fundamental right of citizens, State Police created all conditions and took appropriate measures under the law to develop this rally.
As you may have followed by various media reports, the supposed peaceful manifestation immediately turned into a barbarous attack against State Police officers and against public and private property.
Groups of irresponsible individuals in the makeup of non-small numbers were found elements of serious criminal history, as well as other people with high social risk falsely exploited the legitimate and peaceful right of the gathering.
Express all support and respect for all those citizens of an area distinguished for honesty, pride and nobility such as the Kukes area, who distanced themselves from these irresponsible individuals, as well as those who promote only fire and violence for political interests and became no part of those who, without any cause, viciously attacked State Police officials and destroyed public and private property.
No claimed right can justify, at any time or under any circumstances, the attack on State Police officers and the destruction of property.
A dozen FNSH employees have been injured by stones and solid items thrown off by these individuals, while a police officer has been injured the hardest and is receiving needed medical assistance at the hospital.
I appreciate the coolness and professionalism shown by State Police officers in the situation just hours ago, thus avoiding the realisation of the most serious criminal scenarios, which were interested in specific provocations.
Publicly gives all the support to the State Police for what they did to protect everyone's life and property.
I am sorry to ask the citizens, political parties, the media and the business community to distance themselves from all those representatives of the political parties, who have encouraged protesters with a stimulating language of violence against police and destruction of property, bringing to the attention that this is an extremely dangerous and anti-unconstitutional precedent.
I appeal to the local Government Authorities to distance themselves from these violent acts and to exercise their influence, being co-operative and aiding the State Police, to enable normality for the free movement of hundreds of citizens and transport of goods today and the days ahead.
In the quality of the interior minister, I declare that the state police in law enforcement will have a harsh response to any person who has promoted and is involved in acts of violence against police officers and who have brought great damage to public and private property.
Anyone who stirs up violence and the Ansar will get the legal answer! No one can be above the law!
Prime Minister Edi Rama also received a strong response, saying the law would hit all of him and have violated the police and destroyed the machinery.
Hundreds of citizens flocked to the tunnel today, where there is a pay-off booth for the nation's route to protest the high fee that must be paid to cross this road.
There have been physical clashes between police and protesters, while later, they have turned to machines where the payments are paid, burning them.
After several hours of fighting, the protest has ended, while it is still unknown what has been decided about the further steps they will take.
