The American Embassy in Pristina has announced that the United States of America does not support the idea of exchanging territories between Kosovo and Serbia.
“We do not support the exchange of territory or the setting of precedents that would cause more problems than solutions, but all sides should be creative in finding a” solution, the American Embassy in Pristina gave Radio Free Europe.
The United States continues to strongly support the EU-brokered dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, and encourages both sides to accelerate their efforts to normalise relations”, it says in that response.
The US calls on both sides to seize opportunities to make progress on the issue.
It also says that the US will support both sides to reach a comprehensive agreement, which is the only way to unblock the future of Kosovo and Serbia towards the west.
These comments by the American Embassy come after an open debate on exchange of territories between Kosovo and Serbia, as a solution between the two countries, as well as the request Serbia President Aleksandar Vuciq has made the United States help convince Kosovo Albanians to be ready for flexible solutions that will enable a compromise.
