Madrid's stance, according to “Novost”, is that Kosovo can only be part of the European Union as a particular administration within Serbia. In that sense, the Spaniards have pointed to the EU, not only a written remark, but many other remarks.
This has been confirmed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reports “b92”, the Periscopi broadcast.
Spain's “position for not recognising Kosovo's unilaterally declared declaration of independence is based on the protection of the principles of territorial integrity of states, respect of international law and rule of law”, according to the Spain Ministry of Foreign Affairs Public Affairs.
“Novost” also claims the situation with Catalonia has permanently strengthened Spain's stance on Kosovo.
Madrid does not want to hear any precedent because it can be used, among other things, by some regions.
Following the referendum on Catalonia's independence and the European Commission's assessment that cannot be compared to Kosovo, because Spain is in the EU and Serbia is not the Spanish government has prepared a protest letter in Brussels./Periscopi/
