Former Serbian foreign minister warns major powers for Kosovo

In Belgrade a new debate has been held on internal dialogue regarding modalities for resolving the Kosovo issue, organised by the Faculty of Diplomacy and Security Director of the so-called Office for Kosovo in Serbia, Marko Djuric, has said the final decision on the issue will be handed to citizens of [...]
The director of the so-called Office for Kosovo in Serbia government, Marko Djurovic, has said that the final decision on this issue will be given to the citizens of Serbia, not to the great powers. He also said the Serbian president will publish the final proposal, when internal dialogue is completed and when he estimates that the issue is the right moment.
As prominent Serbian media professors and diplomats gathered to make their contribution to internal dialogue on resolving the Kosovo issue report, more have been taken with history than have proposed possible solutions.
Former Yugoslav Foreign Affairs Minister Vladislav Jovanovic has said that major powers should be aware that without a compromise with Serbia there is no solution to the Kosovo issue.
Serbia must offer adequate compensation, territorial or other compensation. Only then would negotiations be equal. This is now Serbia against all and blackmailing Serbia to accept their ultimatum”, Jovanovic said.
He has said Serbia, if it agrees to give up Kosovo for EU membership, loses its right to be called a state.
As the only concrete solution to this debate, it was the holding of a peace conference whose guarantors would be major world powers. This would mean a redefination of borders -- the partition of Kosovo -- or eventually the exchange of territory.
While some agree with this proposal, others warn of possible consequences from such an option.
Diplomatic Diary Zoran Milivojevic believes the initiative of the peace conference is not possible in just one case.
“initiation of the border issue is impossible, without starting the same issue in the case of other countries”, he says.
The director of the so-called Office for Kosovo and Metohija in Serbia's Government, Marko Djuric, has said that so far they have received many proposals for resolving the Kosovo problem.
He said the views and proposals presented at the upcoming meetings will be taken into account when the final solution is proposed, but did not indicate when that will happen.
We are convinced that this will be done when it is estimated that the right time for this...”, Djuric said.
“Verdict for the final proposal regarding resolving the Kosovo issue will give Serbia's citizens”, Djuric has said, without confirming whether it will be a declaration through referendum, or in any other form.
