While waiting for their apology to be handed over to President Thaci, on the eve of the first decade of Kosovo Independence, these prisoners will be brought back their prayers for forgiveness.
Kosovo Corresponding Service Director Sokol Zogaj has told Periscopi that there are over 400 prisoners who have submitted their requests to the SKK, hoping to be pardoned by the president.
The “are over 400 prisoners who have submitted their requests to the Kosovo Correcting Service for forgiveness from President”, the USKK director says.
However, Zogaj says nothing has been announced by the presidency on this decision.
I'm not aware of the president's decision. The prisoners made the demands. The presidency has not announced anything about this decision. We've done our job, we've got the requests from the prisoners, but we don't have any answers to”, Zogaj told Periscope.
But, according to Zogaj, the president is eligible throughout the year to pardon the prisoners, not only for the anniversary of Independence.
On the other side of Portal Periscopi has tried to get an answer from the President's office whether this decision is only about this year, or whether the president will no longer continue the prison forgiveness tradition, but has received no answers.
Otherwise the President's office, in a statement issued to one of the media yesterday, has indicated that the president will no longer forgive the prisoners, not clarifying whether this applies only to this year or no longer be forgiven by the presidency.
Even former President Atifete Jahjaga had broken this tradition in 2015 and 2016, when she had decided not to forgive any prisoners.
The prison's pardon began in 2009 by former President Sejdiu on an anniversary of Kosovo's independence. This tradition has continued by other presidents.
Jahjaga had made the first possible prison forgiveness in 2014 alone as president.
Meanwhile, last year on the eve of the anniversary of Independence, the President's Office had been granted 694 requests from prisoners for the pardon of their sentence. Of these 694 requests, President Thaci had pardoned only 12 prisoners. /Periscopi
