Conservators and centre-left Social Democrats (SPD) have reached an agreement on forming a new German coalition, according to an announcement.
“Cristian Democrats of Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU), and its basic allies of the Christian Union (CSU) and Social Democrat Party (SPD) have managed to resolve disputes on final issues during the talks held this morning”, according to sources.
Negotiations on forming a new coalition government have been postponed twice despite the deadline, set on February 4th.
During talks Sunday and Monday, an agreement on health, labour market and ministerial portfolios were not reached.
Now, members of the SPD must vote on whether they are pro or opposed to the agreement.
The result of the party referendum is expected to be announced at the first weekend of March.
