The Kosovo Assembly has not yet set any date for holding the extraordinary session for ratification of the Agreement for marking the border line with Montenegro. Such a session was warned of Sunday, but it was postponed for another day.
But even if during this week the Parliament eventually reaches ratification of the Agreement for Demarketation with Montenegro, what are the possibilities of achieving the timelines to enter the agenda of European Union institutions so that a concrete result can be achieved this year in terms of visa liberalisation for Kosovo?
The Minister of European Integrations of the Government of Kosovo, Gift Hoxha, speaking of Radio Free Europe, says these possibilities are very real, in case the Parliament ratified the agreement on demarcation this week.
We're making a conditional statement this week against Demarquement, we hand over the report to the ratification issue as well, but also for the second condition where we are, because it's a condition that needs to be fulfilled. We hand over the report, then we can reach an agenda deadline for the first meeting held in the first week of March, I'm thinking about the Council's (of Europe) meeting, and then the European Parliament's Foreign Commission. All of these are a series of mechanisms, which then must give their own decision and opinion”, Minister Hoxha said.
The condition, which is consistently to be met, referred to by Minister Hoxha, is rule of law and fighting corruption and organised crime.
Minister Hoxha stresses that in 2015, in terms of this condition, Kosovo has been positively assessed and the same progress trend in this area has continued, according to her.
It demonstrates confidence that the Council of Europe, and then the European Commission, will judge towards meeting conditions from Kosovo for obtaining visa liberalisation.
If the fulfillment of conditions by Kosovo is positively assessed, then Kosovo citizens are expected to receive the green light for visa liberalisation in June or September of this year.
