Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister Fatmir Limaj has taken over an extremely difficult mission. He has been making commitments by the Kosovo government for two months to find ways to wrap up the demarcation issue with Montenegro without violating the interests of the two countries.
The number two of the Haradinaj Government has held several meetings away from the public's eye to provide epilogue to the most problematic agreement, which has been holding back Kosovo's trip for years now.
He even reportedly had a meeting with Albania's president, Ilir Meta, on the issue last week. Limaj himself had said at the end of last year that a version of adequate demarcation for all sides would soon be ratified.
Despite the media interest, Limaj had given no more details.
There's about two May I've made a commitment to finding ways that this topic gets closed and opens up the country. I believe the Government of Kosovo has the opportunity to still work together with Montenegro government to find a common solution where the interest of the two countries will be respected. There is enough space for our two governments to take over their obligations to improve any point where they are estimated there have been concessions during that agreement and where there are mistakes to improve. We are talking and we are hoping to find a way where we will be sure that MPs are voting something that is not against the country's interest and that is done in transparency. This would pave the way for Kosovo to liberalisation and European perspective”, Limaj has said during a party rally of the Social Democrat Initiative.
The media have also reported a visit by Limaj to Montenegro on the very issue of demarcation.
Limaj had played a major role in the opposition union. First as V LAN and then VAN.
Even though it is part of the government, he is demanding that in major topics such as dialogue with Serbia be included in opposition and civil society. The month of February is expected to be crucial in finding a solution for marking the border line with Montenegro.
