Two Kosovo municipalities that risked going to elections again

The extremely narrow result in Kosovo's two municipalities, even after the run-off, has threatened to get back into the election. The municipality of Rahoveci and Istog's, at the last few limits, have managed to elect the mayors of the municipal assembly by avoiding extraordinary elections.

The Municipal Assembly of Rahovec, which after the election certificate, had failed to elect the Speaker of the Assembly.

According to Law on Local Self-government and Administration Guide No. 2009/01 for the election procedure and responsibilities of the head of the Communist Assembly, the election of the head of the Communist Assembly is made the most distant 30 days after the constitution.

The absence of quorum in the assembly had caused the chairman's election to run until the last day of the legal deadline.

If the head of the Municipal Assembly in Rahovec were not elected by midnight, this municipality would go to early elections.

After much effort, however, solutions were reached. The head of the Municipal Assembly was elected Nahit Elshani by the LDK.

The elections in this municipality won AAK, where the mayor was elected Smajl Latifi. The winner was determined after the run-off and the very close result between Smajl Latife (AAK) and PDK candidate Idriz Vehapi, who by that time was mayor of the municipality.

The municipality of Istog experienced similar situation.

The Communist Assembly of Istog last night had the legal deadline to elect the leader. The passage of this deadline would send this municipality to early elections.

The election of Qaush Balaj as chairman of the Istog Assembly has saved this municipality without going to the municipal assembly again.

Balaj was elected in late hours Saturday at the chairmanial election session.

In the race were two candidates, Balaj from the Democratic League of Kosovo and Radenko Belosovic, from the Serb minority as an independent candidate.

Belosovic did not get a single vote, but for Balaj, 18 atomicists voted, out of 26 in the hall.

Six allies for the Future of Kosovo and two Vetevendosje politicians boycotted the vote.

Balaj's election came only after the LDK coalitiond with the Democratic Party of Kosovo in this municipality.

Istog's chairman from the LDK ranks, Hakki Rugova, said they have coalitiond with the PDK and thus four asembrists of this party voted their candidate.

From this coalition The PDK wins three directors, but it is not yet known which sectors of the municipality it will lead.

Rugova said he has found common language with the Serb minority, but they will not lead any of the directors.

Several specifics have occurred during this year's municipal elections in the Istog municipality. This municipality has gone to the polls three times. After the run-off round, AAK candidate Gani Dresaj came out to win. But LDK complaints under suspicion of election manipulation caused its citizens to vote for the third time for their chairman.

After the third round, with a slight advantage of the vote, LDK candidate Hakki Rugova won the election. /Insider. com
