Families of Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj, Prime Minister Kadri Veselin and President Hashim Thaci are equipped with diplomatic passports, according to a decision by the Government of the Republic of Kosovo to take on 20 February.
At the Kosovo Government meeting, the decision has been made that, in addition to the prime minister's families, the prime minister and president, both children and wives of the Minister of Internal Affairs, as well as the minister of foreign affairs benefit diplomatic passports, Insander reports.
The diplomatic passport is also issued to the husband and children until the age of 18: The president of the Republic of Kosovo, the head of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, the prime minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Internal Affairs”, says in the Kosovo Government's decision.
In this government decision regarding diplomatic passports, it also notes that former Kosovo presidents can use diplomatic passports for the rest of their lives, while children and their wives can use diplomatic passports only a year after the mandate ends.
“The president of the Republic of Kosovo, which has completed its mandate, its/her husband, continues to use the diplomatic passport of the Republic of Kosovo throughout his life. His/her children have the right to use their diplomatic passport by the age of 18”, the government's decision is highlighted.
A decision was made on the diplomatic passports of MPs, held five days ago. “Deputates enjoy the right to use diplomatic passport, just one (1) year after the end of the” mandate, the Government of Kosovo ruling says.
While family members of three state leaders have obtained diplomatic passports, Kosovo citizens are the only country in the region and ʹ along with Belarus the only ones in Europe who cannot travel without visas to Europe's Schengen area.
For visa liberalisation, the European Union has conditioned Kosovo on ratification of the border demarcation agreement with Montenegro, which has not yet been voted in the Kosovo Assembly, even though it was signed by both countries in 2015.
