US Foreign Secretary Rex Tillerson has asked Iran to withdraw forces from Syria, reports Anadolu Agency (AA).
Tillerson, who, within the Middle East tour, is on official visit to Jordan's capital, Amman, met with Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi.
At the joint press conference after the meeting, Tillerson said he is concerned about recent developments between Iran and Israel in Syria. We wanted Iran to withdraw forces from Syria”, he added.
Citing Iran's influence on Hezbollah in Lebanon, Tillerson added that he supports building a free and independent Lebanon in which all military forces are under government control.
Tillerson, regarding tomorrow's visit to Lebanon, said that with Lebanese leaders they will discuss the process of democracy and the country's future.
Safadi and Tillerson signed a memorandum of understanding under strategic co-operation between the two countries, with which the United States is expected to grant Jordan annual aid of $1.275 billion for a five-year term.
Within the context of the Middle East tour, which includes Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Kuwait, Rex Tillerson has so far visited Egypt and Kuwait
