Last Friday, Kosovo took a step towards visa liberalisation. This following the signing of the demarcation agreement between Kosovo and Montenegro, signed by President Hashim Thaci and Montenegro's Filip Vujanovic.
And the European Commission has welcomed this agreement. Katarzyna Kolanko from the European Commission Office in a response to Indexline has indicated that even more complicated issues can now move forward.
“We welcome the positive step taken Friday (16/02) by President Thaci and President Vujanovic. This is a concrete signal of progress, in the spirit of good neighbourly relations showing that even complicated issues can move ahead of”, Kolanko from the EC has said.
However, the EC expects this agreement to be ratified as soon as possible.
“in this context, we from Kosovo look forward to long ratification of the demarcation agreement with Montenegro”, said in its response to Indexline.
In response to the EC, the agreement signed between the two countries is a spirit the EU would like to see more and more.
This encouraging sign must now be followed. That is the spirit the EU would like to see more and more as the region approaches the EU, an element highlighted in the Commission Strategy recently published in the Western Balkans”, is said to be responding.
Indexline has also asked him whether there is hope for visa liberalisation for Kosovars, as this criterion has already been achieved but has not been answered.
Otherwise, the day the agreement was signed, Eurodeputt in the European Parliament, Tanja Fajon, has welcomed the agreement reached between Kosovo and Montenegro, saying the EP will be activated in the liberalisation of Kosovo once the two conditions are met -- namely, ratification of the demarcation and fighting corruption.
Fajon has written on Twitter that the agreement reached between Montenegro and Kosovo has only opened the doors to Kosovo and that they will soon proceed to the European Parliament on visa issues.
The extraordinary session, attended by the demarcation for ratification, is expected to be held Thursday.
