European Cities Threatened by Extreme Weather

Climate change will bring chaos to Europe by 2051, according to a study that analyses the impact of extreme phenomena on the continent. Experts considered possible changes in floods, droughts, heat waves for all European cities, using all climate patterns available. In all the cities [...]
Experts considered possible changes in floods, droughts, heat waves for all European cities, using all climate patterns available.
In all surveyed cities, there are forecasts of worsening heat waves, as well as increasing drought, especially in southern Europe.
In simulations, rising river levels were also seen, especially in northwestern cities such as London.
Using projections from all climate models, the team of scientists at Newcastle University showed the results for 3 possible future scenarios, which they call the low, medium and high impact scenarios, writes Top Channel.
The study reaches the end that, even in the most optimistic scenario, the low impact, both the number of hot days and the maximum temperatures will rise for all European cities.
The cities of southern Europe will be the ones to experience the biggest increase of hot days, while Central Europe will be affected by the intense rise in temperatures during heat waves.
In the most optimistic scenario, temperatures will rise by 2 to 7 degrees, while in the worst scenario, from 8 to 14 degrees Celsius. The drought is also projected to be twice as high as 1951 to 2000, and according to the worst scenario, 98 percent of European cities will be affected by the phenomenon.
