Erdogan warns Greek Cyprus, in case of conflict, battleships are ready

Greece and Greek Cyprus should not try to take advantage of opportunities at the time when Turkey is conducting military operations in northern Syria, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, urging them not to exceed the eastern Middle East sign from drilling gas off the island. “Shouldn't think that some opportunistic effort [...]
It should not be thought that some opportunistic efforts on islands in the Aegean and gas exploration activities are not in our attention. We are warning those who pass the sign in the Aegean,” President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said before his lawmakers in Parliament on February 13th, reports “Hurriyet”, the Periscopi broadcast.
Tensions have risen in the eastern Middle East after Greek Cyprus launched a new gas drilling effort in the bloc of the three islands, where it signed a contract with the Italian energy firm ENI.
According to reports the ENI ship was banned on February 9th from Turkish military ships after it was announced there would be military activities in the destination zone.
The long-standing Greek Cypriot administration has made efforts to explore the drilling of hydrocarbon reserves off the island, despite the fact that they also belong to Turkish Cyprus.
The Greek minority announced that in some areas it will explore Turkey's alleged reserves to be part of its exclusive economic zone.
Erdogan has announced that Turkish warships and the security unit are monitoring developments in this region, but did not confirm that the ENI ship has been banned. “Turkey will be an imminent cause of rights, agreements and international laws. For us, our rights in Africa are not different from those in Cyprus and the Aegean,” he added./Periscopi/
