Engel: US, Kosovo will have strong relations, no matter who is in power

Coming to Pristina on the 10th anniversary of Kosovo's Declaration of Independence, US congressionalwoman Eliot Engel, seems thrilled to be in the country of liberation and independence, whose commitment had begun nearly thirty years earlier, when, as it says, no one believed Kosovo would [...] be able to [...]

I was the first, one of the first to call for an independent Kosovo, and many people told me that this would never happen, that it was an impossible dream... and that's where we are”, Engel says in an exclusive interview given “Koha Ditore”, given Sunday, when, along with the note of the anniversary of Kosovo's independence, he also marked his 71st birthday.

Engel, a congresswoman known as a great supporter of Kosovo and Albanians, recalls that at this moment the holiday for Kosovo more needs to be reflected to achieve rather than to problems. “We need to think about how much progress we've made over the years, where we have been and where we have arrived and, although the future is related to the problems we have to deal with, yet people need to see how far we've come to Kosovo, instead of seeing certain things that may still be problems”.

In the interview, he spoke of many aspects of the relationship between Kosovo and the United States of America, of the achievements that have been made, but also of the issues that need to be addressed, including the adoption of the demarcation agreement with Montenegro, and of allowing the work of the Special Court.
