In an open letter, Roland Van Hauwermeiren, 68, has denied that a reception he organised in Haiti was “collection for sex”, as it is suspected.
He said he had a “intimate relationship with a woman in Haiti, but that that “wasn't a prostitute”.
Oxfam, one of the largest aid organisations in Great Britain, has been subject to an article in the Times last week.
The British newspaper has accused him of hiding the findings of an investigation in 2011, under which aid workers in Haiti have paid local sex prostitutes.
Oxfam has been providing aid in Haiti, following a devastating earthquake that hit this country in 2010, leaving more than 200,000 people killed.
The scandal has put Oxfam at risk of losing funds from the United Kingdom and the European Union.
