After seven hours of questioning, held at the KNAB offices in Riga, Ilmars Rimsevices was sent at night to another location in the presence of his lawyer, with Saulvedis Varpins and KNAB officials, a journalist with the BNS news agency stressed.
The National Anti-Corruption Office has not preferred to comment on the governor's arrest.
His arrest was confirmed by Latvian Prime Minister Maris Kuczynski.
For now, neither I as prime minister, no other official has reason to interfere with the KNAB's work. The KNAB office works professionally”, the prime minister said.
When the KNAB will judge it to provide additional information to the public, it will do”, he added, underlining that the government had full confidence in its work and that it was willing to support it.
