The former Marine Forces Commander, who has led the sea border division negotiations with the Italian side, confessed this Thursday at Top Channel how Albania withdrew from extending 15 miles in 1990.
But in the late 1980 ' s, our country received an ultimatum.
The Albanian government decides to extend the waters to 15 miles in full opposition to any state. It was a paradoxical act. This law was reversed, but Albania continued 15 miles until the American grade came in 1989. I had my copy of the American government's note on the table through the French Embassy, where it said the ultimatum; the pull from 15 miles to 12 miles. We received an ultimatum from the U.S. to retreat to 12 miles at the time, and in 1990, the government of that time withdrew to 12 miles”, he relates.
Bea recalls two moments of negotiations with the Italians.
The “S first was the 15-mile withdrawal and acceptance of the base line, and second was the status of the island of Saban. The Italians claimed to be uninhabited. This has been a difficult phase of negotiations and I say today that if we were to attend the Italian proposal for Saban, we would lose 100 miles of sea”, he said.
Professor/Doctor Ecerem Yziari, professor of geography at the Faculty of History and Philology at the University of Tirana, requires that negotiations with Greeks be taken care of in terms.
THE only principle to apply was that of equality. The term “selected” in the principle of equality leaves a lot of room for interpretation”, says Professor Yziri.
