Justice Minister Abelard Tahiri, through a post on the social Facebook network, has indicated that during 2018, the Republic of Kosovo has become leaders in the region in terms of fighting transnational crime.
Tahiri has announced that during this year 85 extraditions have been carried out, which makes the Republic of Kosovo one of the largest and most serious contributors to the fight against trans-national crime in the region.
Over a year, we have been committed to combating trans-national organised crime and meeting justice for the leaders of criminal acts, where 85 extraditions have been completed from January to today, more than what has been happening for years combined. With these figures, the Republic of Kosovo has become the leader in the region and one of the biggest contributors against criminal acts and organised crime, becoming a powerful and punishable address of trans-nationalist crime”, Tahiri writes in his status.
According to Minister Tahiri, the dedication of the rule and law institutions, namely the Ministry of Justice, in implementing measures of reciprocity and bilateral agreements regulating the area of international judicial co-operation, is strengthening the image and trust of the Republic of Kosovo in the international arena.
“This co-operation of the Ministry of Justice and Independent Law Rules with countries with which Kosovo has bilateral agreements in this field shows the growth of the actual faith that our institutions are consolidating in the international arena” has added.
Tahiri has announced that today he has proposed in Government the adoption of the concept-document for international judicial co-operation in criminal matters, with the aim of proposing legal changes in this area, aimed at increasing efficiency and performance of institutions. According to him, it would enable an even more efficient fight of trans-national crime, making Kosovo a safe place for citizens and a secure place for criminals.
“Today at the Government meeting, I asked for approval of the concept of international law co-operation in criminal matters, which paves the way for changing the proper law, so that we can avoid obstacles and further increase efficiency practices that will increase the performance of our institutions and increase the security of our citizens, enabling them to have an environment where trans-national organised crime cannot be deleted<1> has completed its posts, Tahiri.
