The high number of murders in Albania of male women should be seen as an alarm bells for our country, psychologists say, while insisting on the importance and protection given to raped women.
Albania is the country with the highest murder rate from intimate partners in Europe.
This is published by the United Nations Crime and Drugs Office (UNODC) in a recent report.
For psychologist Ariana Mucha, this report must be an alarm bells.
“This shows that even though the law has been hardened again we are not seeing it have an effect as we expect it or wish it, that this number is even lower”, Muca said, reports “OrraNews”.
Although the law has been toughed at punishing men who rape women, psychologist Mucha says more needs to be done about the situation.
Enjoying rights means that even sharing property between a man and a woman should be equal. If we have a measure against our husband, who has violated his wife, then it's good to find him a shelter. We see that the shelter is divided into two sections between husband and wife. Although he is the bully, a door separates them both”, she added.
The United Nations report highlights that Albania has the highest rate of murder by intimate partners, with 0.7 homicides per 100,000 women, data referred to in 2016.
This is the highest level in Europe. Most women's murders in Albania are done precisely by their partners.
