Those arrested are linked to right-wing extremists, CNN reports.
They were arrested Tuesday as part of the investigation into the alleged plot against Macron.
The French intelligence agency DGSI said six people were arrested in three separate regions: Isere, southeast of Lyon; Moselle, bordering Germany and Luxembourg; and Ille-et-Vilaine, northwest near the city of Renne.
The suspects include five men and a woman between the ages of 22 and 62, a source for CNN said.
All of those arrested are linked to right-wing extremists, the Interior Ministry reported in a statement.
The arrests come after Macro warned in an interview for Le Courier Picard on Sunday of the growing threat of extreme right movement, adding that complacency in the early 1900 ' s opened the way for Hitler's rise in Germany and Mussolini in Italy.
According to Reuters, National Rachel, once known as National Front, is leading anti-Maron polls ahead of the European Parliament's elections in May. The party is led by Marine Le Pen.
