The move, according to the police, has come with the aim of raising road safety and lowering accidents.
“Based on assessments made by police two weeks ago, it started with measures and activities added to the field of preventing and awareness of pedestrians for crossing the road to comply with road traffic signs, including underpass exploitation. Enhanced police commitments are focused on the National Mitrovica Way, the main road segment along the Big River villages, Evrom Stanovc and Lower Stanovc, the area identified with the risk for pedestrians who do not exploit underpasses, with fatal accidents of” as a result, the police report said. “In support and implementation of the measures added to the Regional Traffic Unit, with concrete action plans is also contributing to the Vushtrri Police Station, where the issue of pedestrian safety and the exploitation of subpasses has held three meetings with residents of the three villages mentioned above, while in the context of concrete actions, it added police presence under the appropriate sector covering these villages”.
For two weeks in these areas, police have imposed more than 40 fines for pedestrians who have crossed the road to areas where they are not allowed.
Police have appealed to all traffic participants, in particular to pedestrians, to increase care during street crossing, to respect and adhere to legal provisions, and in areas where the foot crossings are located.
