Movement for the Union leader Valon Murati has called the calls absurd to preserve the principles of the Ahtisaari Pack. According to Murati, this document is no longer important than independence.
The former Diaspora minister has also said that calling on non-changing borders also means final ignoring the position of the Albanians in eastern Kosovo.
“Call to preserve the principles of Ahtisaari Pack is absurd
It is true that this document, which has been living even in the Constitution, has come in a package of independence, but it is also true that it is not more important than independence. Moreover, Ahtisaari's document and its principles were a serious compromise to realise independence. And this compromise means that we have declared independence, but we have made Kosovo dysfunctional through the extraordinary blocking privileges that the Serb minority has. On the other hand, the call for non-recognition of borders also means final neglect of the position of Albanians in eastern Kosovo.
Our policy, should not focus on the domestic political battle on who is more about preserving Ahtisaari's package and its principles not on changing borders through the resolutions of the Parliament of Kosovo (extraordinary especially when it comes from those who are supposed to be national union), but to exploit the situation through a political consensus, exploit international circumstances, courageously opening up the issue of eastern Kosovo, and seeking the implementation of reciprocity with the three northern municipalities of Kosovo.
If this leads to redefining the borders, that's better. Kosovo gets rid of the Ahtisaari Pakon, inspects the Albanian parts of eastern Kosovo, and gives the right to Serb parts of the three northern municipalities to declare union with Serbia.
Such a situation does not hurt Kosovo, but is its salvation. The variable to continue with this status quo is removing its own responsibilities, lack of courage and vision, and leaving for another generation the realisation of an irreversible process now on. Only that we will be in heavier positions then: We risk losing even the northern part of the city of Mitrovica, as well as the majority of eastern Kosovo because of its population. Others are unfortunately part of a political game played poorly by all its players” writes Murati on Facebook.
