The Democratic League of Kosovo does not think to back down its demand for Kosovo's Assembly to vote against the idea of an eventual agreement with Serbia on changing borders.
The LDK Parliamentary Group has submitted a new request to the Parliamentary Assembly's Headship to hold an extraordinary session where it expects the resolution to be adopted, which will require that the Kosovo border issue be not discussed in dialogue with Serbia in Brussels.
Avdullah Hoti, chief of the Parliamentary Group of the Democratic League of Kosovo, told Radio Free Europe that the statements and actions of President Hashim Thaci for changing borders have no stop. Therefore, he says the submitted request is meant to hold an extraordinary session by November 1st so that the president will stop activities to enter into the dialogue on territory issues.
No one has a mandate to negotiate Kosovo territory. This is the main red line in the process of dialogue. I hope and call on all political parties, all Kosovo Assembly deputies, to be in session on November 1st and to vote on this resolution”, Hoti said.
But, the LDK's insistence that the Parliament adopt this resolution, from the Democratic Party of Kosovo, which makes up the majority in the current ruling coalition, is seen only as fleeing from responsibility.
Zenun Pajaziti, deputy The PDK, Free Europe told Radio that the LDK's new request and its actions are nothing but attempts to escape a political consensus for dialogue and evasion.
This is a deepening gap in terms of reaching a consensus on the question of dialogue. Instead of responding to the invitation for a joint table to be brought out on a common platform, which the Speaker of the Parliament had proposed, we now have only abstentions and, for more, constitutionalizations”.
“We must not prejudge, the first one of the institutions has no right to act contrary to the Constitution of Kosovo and need not be prejudged at this stage of dialogue something like this, and at a time when all in Kosovo [political perspective] is about dialogue and the preservation of the values that have been achieved so far, which are presented in our” Constitution, Pajaziti said.
Meanwhile, LDK deputy Avdullah Hoti explained that if the proposed resolution is not adopted, all possible legal ways will be followed so that the president is not allowed to speak on Kosovo's borders in the talks. What the LDK is looking for, he stressed, is to create a red line in dialogue with Serbia.
We will pursue all constitutional ways to prevent this from happening. While there is no new resolution on the dialogue process, no one can enter dialogue with Serbia to discuss issues outside constitutional competencies”, Hoti added.
According to him, no Parliamentary MP supports President Thaci's idea of reforming the border, as long as he estimates his insistence on doing so is disturbing.
While the political subjects in power and opposition are not finding common language about Kosovo's representation in dialogue and the platform for talks, Kosovo President Hashim Thaci has called on parliamentary political parties for unity in the Kosovo Assembly, especially regarding the platform for talks with Serbia.
“As far as dialogue is concerned, I believe the Parliament should do its work, should be overcome and invite the political spectrum of Kosovo, indiscriminately, those in government and those in opposition, to outdo this political and institutional stalemate and open up perspective to the country”, Thaci said shortly before the launch of the Francophone Investment Forum being held in Pristina.
On the other hand, Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj has once again repeated his stance Friday that he does not accept any agreement with Serbia that leads to changing borders.
“may have legal agreements for mutual recognition with Serbia, but not territory-based agreements, not at the border of”, Haradinaj said at a media conference after the government's meeting.
Recently, two resolutions for dialogue with Serbia -- which MPs from the ruling and opposition parties have differing opinions -- have been proposed in the Kosovo Assembly.
