Businessmen seek permission to buy old cars, citizens do not

Currently, merchants in Kosovo can import cars no older than ten years. However, after MP Mergim Lushtaku's proposal for lifting restrictions that prevents the importation of cars older than ten years, the Assembly is reevaluating the auto law. Even merchants are looking for it [...]
The removal of this restriction is also being required by car dealers in the Fush market in Kosovo.
Samir Voca, the car dealer in this market, said that if this restriction is not lifted, he doesn't know what to do with cars older than 10 years he owns, Kosovapress reports.
Xhaferer Fetah is also convening the removal of the import restriction of old cars, mainly because of their lower cost. As for the damage that might cause the environment, he said it could be avoided through technical control.
But buyers are not sharing their opinion with merchants. They want to remain limited to import cars older than 10 years, but demand that they be freed from customs spending.
Eric Berisha said old cars are damaging the environment, so he suggested that they not be imported to Kosovo.
“I hadn't thought about bringing the cars back to Kosovo for 10 years, because they're doing a lot of damage to the old squirrels, but in my opinion it had been better to bring them new squirrels, but customs also lower taxes, because they don't have the finances to buy new squirrels. And this is costing us more in customs”, Berisha has said.
The same opinion is shared by Arben Gashi from Arllati, who said that sometimes it is costing the registration of cars rather than themselves.
Severe objections to the new legal initiative, with which the restriction to age cars is envisioned, have expressed representatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure. Representatives in this ministry have deemed the law's change unnecessary, insisting on its position that disorder develops in the import market of vehicles, and Kosovo turns into old car cemeterys.
However, the proposor of the legal initiative for removing the age limit of cars older than ten years, Mergim Lushtaku, long ago it has been argued that until the decision on change came after research, where no European Union country is provided as criterion for the import of age of vehicles, besides environmental conservation standards.
I've researched whether there are any criteria of importing cars into the EU in terms of age, standard age scans, but only environmental standards. The biggest problem is that most cars in Kosovo are not registered, this is more problematic than importing. Cars that don't have the emissions of the standard -- Euro 4) -- must regulate the catalyst” -- added the initiative's projector.
Otherwise, Kosovo's Assembly has approved the first reading removal of restrictions on the age of cars older than 10 years.
