Bowers opened fire in the Synagogue Congregation of Living Tree in the area of the Pellumb Hill shortly before 10:00. Sinagoga was more noisy than usual with Shabat services and due to a ceremony naming babies that was also planned.
After the opening of a fire in the congregation with three pistols and an AR-15, he faced two Pittsburgh police officers who had been summoned to the scene while he tried to leave the building. Bowers fired, wounding the two policemen, then pulled in and ran to the third floor to hide.
He then engaged in a battle with a team of SWAT and injured two of them.
He is still alive and in hospital under police surveillance and is in stable condition.
None of the victims have been appointed. Police discovered on Saturday afternoon that all those killed were adults and that no children were hurt.
The six injured persons include a 70-year-old man who is conducting operations for multiple gunshot wounds and a 61-year-old woman expected to survive.
Three out of four police officers are likely to survive, but one fourth, a 55-year-old law enforcement officer, is in critical condition.
