The chairman of the Commission for Recognising the status of persons raped during the war, Minire Begaj-Bajlaj, has indicated that 145 cases have been verified and accepted the status of the victim of sexual violence, 102 cases have been rejected, while others are under consideration.
Balaj made it known that even though the number of women raped in Kosovo is huge, there are also cases of male rape.
So far we've known six cases of sexual rape, where the victim was men. There may be other cases we haven't opened for review yet, but in relation to raped women, this number is very small”, Minire Begaj-Blay said. The Commission's chairman stressed that cases that have already been verified have begun to accept the practices they belong to under the law.
Balaj on the “show Face” on TV Dukaagjini stressed that an awareness is needed in Kosovo society as regards cases of victims raped during the war.
